"Olvidamos como contemplar la madre tierra?" (Naara Bahler)

PASQUART, Biel / Bienne

Photoforum Pasquart is pleased to present Naara Bahler's solo exhibition as part of the Biel/Bienne Photo Days 2025. The theme of this year's festival is "Horizons" and deals with the question of how landscapes are perceived, used and represented.

Whether city, forest or industry - landscape is not only a physical space, but also a cultural and emotional construct. It is described, mapped, photographed and interpreted. The Biel/Bienne Photography Days 2025 explore new horizons of landscape representation and present artistic positions that show alternative perspectives on our relationship to the environment.

In her work, Naara Bahler explores the connection between man and nature in a poetic and experimental way. Her works engage in an exciting dialog with the festival theme by enabling a personal, sensual approach to landscapes and their representation.

Have we forgotten how to look at Mother Earth?
Naara Bahler poses this question in her work and invites viewers to pause and rethink their connection to nature. Inspired by childhood memories of hours spent observing nature, she seeks a form of contemplation in her artistic practice - a moment of stillness that creates space for reflection and imagination.

Bahler combines analog, cyanotype and digital photographic techniques to create images that merge contemporary elements with nature. Flowers, leaves and human traces enter into a dialog with each other, creating compositions that radiate a quiet mysticism and sometimes evoke imaginary beings. Her works address the tension between permanence and transience by contrasting fast, immaterial digital photography with a deliberate, slow creative process.

With her months of experimental work, Bahler invites viewers to engage in a deeper examination of their environment. Her works offer an opportunity for conscious contemplation - an invitation to pause and rediscover one's own connection to the earth.

Naara Bahler (*1989) was born in Argentina to a Chilean mother and a Swiss father and grew up there. From 2009 to 2011, she studied clinical laboratory technology and radiology at the National University of Córdoba. Her fascination with the material aspects of photography led her to explore the medium in 2013. Since then, she has focused on analog photography and techniques such as cyanotype, working with different materials such as fabrics and paper to create unique exhibition objects. As a self-taught photographer, she continuously explores and refines these experimental processes. Bahler currently lives and works between Brazil and Switzerland.

This exhibition is made possible by the support of the Burgergemeinde Bern and the Ernst Göhner Foundation.
