"Tactics And Mythologies" (Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein)

PASQUART, Biel / Bienne

Photoforum Pasquart is pleased to present Tactics and Mythologies - a captivating exhibition by New York-based artist duo Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein. This is the first stop of the traveling exhibition after its premiere at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. The exhibition explores the interplay of contemporary mythology, disinformation and visual narrative in the digital age and is part of an ongoing dialog about how images shape our collective consciousness.

With a multi-layered approach, Orejarena & Stein interweave documentary, conceptual and research-based photographic strategies to explore how narratives and visual cultures evolve in a networked world. Their project American Glitch - the centerpiece of this exhibition - explores visual mythologies on the internet and their connections to historical memories, conspiracy theories and the aesthetics of digital simulation. The duo has built an extensive archive of over 2,000 images - including found footage and AI-generated visuals - that offers a critical yet poetic look at the American media landscape.

About the artists
Orejarena & Stein (*1994 in Colombia & UK) are a multimedia artist duo based in New York. Their conceptual, documentary work utilizes the interplay of technology, memory and desire to investigate American myths and narratives. They are fascinated by the emergent quality of creating each photograph together with a single camera. Their practice is often accompanied by intense research into how their images fit into collective image production and the flood of images around us.

About the curator
Nadine Isabelle Henrich is a curator at Haus der Photographie, Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Her curatorial work focuses on networked image cultures, visual literacy and transdisciplinary approaches to photography. With Tactics and Mythologies, she initiated the series Viral Hallucinations, which examines the relationship between documentary practices, image cultures on the net and disinformation in the digital age. Viral Hallucinations is an ongoing exhibition and discourse program (2024-2027).
