Always on carnival Monday („Güdismontag“), strange figures populate the town of Zug. They roam the streets of the old town whipping about with pig bladders. This is a reminiscence of Margarethe Schell, called Greth Schell, one of the town’s original characters. She used to have to get her drunk husband home from the pub. The tradition of the carpenters‘, turners‘ and coopers‘ guild is still the same today. Masked with cap and bells, the jesters move through the town, and to soften the effect a bit, they hand out bread rolls, sausages and oranges to the children.
