This is the itinerary:
Friday, 3rd April 18.30 - Alexandria and Pergamon: The Race for Knowledge
The cities of Alexandria and Pergamon became rivals in a race for an important commodity: knowledge and prestige. This contest forced them into a relentless upgrading of their cultural and scientific capital, attracting some of the finest artists and scholars, and enhancing their libraries as both cities became proud beacons of learning and wealth.
Friday, 10th April 18.30 - Amarna: Akhenaten, the Forbidden Pharaoh
The ruins of Amarna tell the story of a pharaoh that was purposely deleted from the pages of history by his own people. Ironically, the attempt to erase his memory made him immortal. Akhenaten, the pharaoh who threatened the Egyptian religious establishment, is one of the most enigmatic figures of ancient times. What do we know about his life and legacy?
Friday, 17th April 18.30 - Persepolis: The City of All Nations
The city of Persepolis was the royal seat of the ancient Persians and a symbol of their imperial vision. Workers, craftsmen, and artists from all over the empire were brought to the site to be part of this majestic project. Learn about the rise and fall of this legendary site and its connection to the wider historical events surrounding it.
Friday, 24th April 18.30 - Nimrud and Kapilavastu: Ghost Cities
Nimrud in Mesopotamia and Kapilavastu in southern Asia are examples of cities that became forgotten already in ancient times. These cities were plunged into oblivion and rediscovered on several occasions, both in antiquity and in the modern era. Their ruins share the same fate, but they tell us a different story with different lessons.
